Giving Tuesday, often called the “global day of generosity,” began in 2012 at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Founded by Henry Timms with support from the United Nations Foundation, it was created as a response to the consumer‑driven days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The idea was simple yet powerful: remind us that the holiday season is not only about shopping, but also about sharing kindness and giving back.
Since then, Giving Tuesday has grown into a worldwide movement, celebrated in more than 75 countries. Each year, millions of people come together to donate, volunteer, and uplift their communities.
When Is Giving Tuesday?
This year, Giving Tuesday falls on December 2, 2025, just five days after Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and ask ourselves: How can I give from the heart?
